Web design
for The Villages

Your customers are over 55. If your type is small, your contrast is weak, and your phone number is buried, they don't complain — they leave. We build sites they can actually read, and buy from.

01

Why this market is different

The Villages is the largest active-adult community in the United States, spread across Sumter, Lake, and Marion counties. Most web designers treat it as just another Florida town and ship the same site they'd build for a Miami startup.

That's a mistake, and it's an expensive one for the business paying for it. Three things about this market change how a site should be built:

  • Your audience is almost entirely 55+. Presbyopia — the loss of near-focus that makes reading glasses necessary — is close to universal after about 45. The 14px grey-on-grey body text that looks elegant in a design portfolio is genuinely hard to read for most of your customers.
  • Buying decisions happen on tablets and desktops, not just phones. Mobile-first is still correct, but a site that's only been tested at 390px wide will fall apart on the iPad your customer actually uses at the kitchen table.
  • Trust is local and word-of-mouth travels fast. Residents ask their neighbors, their club, and their social groups before they ask Google. Your site is the credibility check that happens after the recommendation — it has to look like a real business, immediately.

Where your customers actually are

Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter Landing, and Brownwood Paddock Square anchor the commercial life of The Villages, with golf cart paths connecting neighborhoods to them. If you serve residents, your site competes for attention against a community that's genuinely easy to get around in person — so being findable and legible online is what closes the gap.

02

Accessibility as a sales tool

Most agencies sell ADA compliance as insurance against a lawsuit. That's real — accessibility lawsuits against small business websites are common in Florida — but it's the least interesting reason to do it here.

In The Villages, accessibility is conversion optimization. Every fix below removes a reason for a customer to give up and call someone else.

4.5:1

Minimum contrast

WCAG 2.1 AA for body text. We build to it as a floor, and push key text higher. Light grey on white fails this and is everywhere.

16px+

Body type, minimum

Set in relative units so a reader who bumps their browser text size doesn't break your layout.

44px

Tap target size

WCAG 2.5.5. Buttons and links big enough to hit reliably with reduced fine motor control or arthritis.

100%

Keyboard operable

Every function reachable without a mouse, with a visible focus ring — which also covers screen reader users.

What this looks like in practice

  • Phone number in the header, tappable, on every page — not hidden in a contact form
  • Prices and hours in real text, never baked into an image a screen reader can't read
  • Navigation that fits in short-term memory: few items, plain words, no clever labels
  • Forms with visible labels that stay visible — not placeholder text that disappears the moment you start typing
  • Real alt text on images, and captions on any video

This is the same WCAG 2.1 AA standard we hold our own site to. You can check it — the badge in the footer isn't decorative.

What we build

Full studio, so the brand and the site come from one place and actually match.

  • Websites — accessible, fast, SEO-ready, easy for you to update. Built for healthcare practices, home services, restaurants, professional services, and retail serving the area.
  • Brand identity — logo, color, type, and a guide so your signage, your cart wrap, and your site all look like the same company.
  • Accessibility remediation — fixing an existing site rather than replacing it, when that's the honest answer.
  • Local SEO — technical setup, local business schema, and a Google Business Profile review so you show up when someone searches from their lanai.
  • Print — the medium that still works here. Direct mail, signage, menus, flyers for club and recreation center bulletin boards.
  • Social media management — ongoing content for businesses that don't have time to post.

How it works

  1. 01

    Free review

We look at your current site — accessibility, speed, mobile, and how you're showing up in local search — and send you the findings. No cost, no obligation.

  2. 02

    Conversation

Twenty minutes on the phone, on WhatsApp, or in person at one of the squares. We want to know who your customer is and what makes the phone ring.

  3. 03

    Written proposal

Fixed scope, fixed price, dated milestones. No hourly surprises. It's valid for 30 days and you own the decision.

  4. 04

    Design and build

You approve each milestone before we move to the next. We revise within the agreed scope until you're satisfied — that's written into our terms, not just a promise.

  5. 05

    Launch and after

We handle the launch, verify accessibility and speed on the live site, and hand you the files. Maintenance is available monthly if you want us to keep it running.

Questions

Yes. We're based in Wildwood, minutes from The Villages, and businesses serving the area are a core part of our work. We'll meet you at one of the town squares or work entirely remotely — whichever suits you.

Because your customers are the demographic most affected by it. Presbyopia is near-universal after about 45, so small type and weak contrast aren't a style choice — they're a wall between your prices and the person trying to read them. The legal exposure is real too, but the lost sales come first.

Branding and web design start at $3,000, social media management at $2,000, and print at $300. What you pay depends on scope, and you get a written proposal with a fixed price before anything begins.

A focused business site is typically four to six weeks from kickoff to launch. A full brand plus website runs eight to twelve. The variable is almost always how fast content and feedback come back from your side — we'll tell you honestly if we're waiting on you.

Often, yes. Run the free review first and we'll show you what's actually wrong. If it's contrast, type size, and focus states, remediation costs a fraction of a rebuild and we'll say so. We'd rather do the smaller job well than sell you something you don't need.

We build the technical foundation — clean markup, local business schema, fast load times — and review your Google Business Profile setup, which matters more for local results than most people realize. Where you land depends on your competition and staying consistent over months, so we don't promise positions. Anyone who does is guessing.

Projects are split across milestones, so you pay as work is delivered rather than all upfront. For larger engagements we can structure it further — ask when we scope the proposal.
